Photographers
Meet to Grow Together in Skill, Technique, Artistry
Photography
is a tool for exploring ourselves and our world. Individual
photographers have often come together to collaborate, to
critique and to challenge one another to grow as artists and
human beings.
We first met in the late 1990’s; six women enrolled
in an introductory photography course at Creative Arts Workshop
in New Haven. We were a diverse group but through time we
discovered two common characteristics: our enthusiasm for
photography and our enjoyment of being together and sharing
life stories and experiences. We continued together in class,
learning from excellent teachers, and perhaps as importantly,
from each other.
Of
the original six, five are still in the group, and we have
two new members. A few years ago, we were fortunate to have
Harold Shapiro join us as our teacher, mentor, and now friend.
He is head of the Photography Department at CAW and a well-known
photographer in the area.
Our photos reveal our differences in style and also in technique.
Some have embraced digital photography, while others remain
loyal to traditional darkroom photography. But what remains
unchanged is our individual commitment to photography and
to our group.

Y-Me
Benefit 2004
In
October of 2004, Tracey Vingiano hosted a benefit that raised
over $19,000 to support Y-Me of Connecticut, a Breast Cancer
Organization in Branford and The Partnerships Center for Adult
Day Care, Inc. in Hamden. The Disco Dance Reunion II was held
at Bar in New Haven with music from Mark Lavation featuring
Abigail.
Valerie
Della Rocco, Director of The Partnerships Center, said that
"Tracey, truly is an example of one person making a difference.
The Partnerships Center has held fundraising events for 20
years but has never been able to raise this much money in
one night! Tracey's outreach effort was the most successful
ever and the Center is deeply grateful to everyone who donated
to this event." The Partnerships Center provides adult day
care and relies on grants and donations for funding.
Tracey
extended her efforts to include The Partnerships Center largely
due to a personal challenge. The need for adult day care struck
close to home and knowing the toll of caring for an elderly
person on other family members, Tracey wanted to help in any
way possible.
